Enable RepoForge (RPMForge) in Centos and RHEL

RepoForge (RPMforge) repository

RepoForge was earlier known as RPMForge. RepoForge is a repository package for RHEL and CentOS. There are many packages available in RepoForge (RPMforge) for RHEL and CentOS and some for other Linux distributions.
RPMforge can be used with the package management tools like yum, apt-get etc.

 Know your Operating System

Before you think of enabling RPMForge repository you must know the bit of your Linux OS . This is essential because you just cannot install and use packages made for other bit OS.
RPMforge repository is distinct for both 32 bit and 64 bit Linux OS. Firstly, you need to know what Operating system you are using.
Type the following command to know details of your Linux OS kernel

# uname -a
Linux 3.10.0-229.14.1.el7.x86_64 #1 SMP Tue Sep 15 15:05:51 UTC 2015 x86_64 x86_64 x86_64 GNU/Linux
                 

Install RepoForge (RPM Forge) repository in CentOS & RHEL version 4

32 bit
For downloading RepoForge (RPMforge) package for 32 bit Linux OS in Version 4 use the following links.

# wget http://packages.sw.be/rpmforge-release/rpmforge-release-0.5.2-2.el4.rf.i386.rpm

Now install RPMforge.

# rpm -ivh rpmforge-release-0.5.2-2.el4.rf.i386.rpm

64 bit
Download RPMforge (RepoForge)  for 64 bit Linux OS  in Version 4 by using the given link.

# wget http://packages.sw.be/rpmforge-release/rpmforge-release-0.5.2-2.el4.rf.x86_64.rpm

Install RPMforge

# rpm -ivh rpmforge-release-0.5.2-2.el4.rf.x86_64.rpm

 

Install RepoForge (RPM Forge) repository in CentOS & RHEL version 5

32 bit
For Downloading RPMforge (RepoForge)  for 32 bit  OS in Version 5 use the following links.

# wget http://packages.sw.be/rpmforge-release/rpmforge-release-0.5.2-2.el5.rf.i386.rpm

Installing RPMforge

# rpm -ivh rpmforge-release-0.5.2-2.el5.rf.i386.rpm

64 bit
Download RPMforge (RepoForge)  for 64 bit Linux OS  in Version 5 by using the following links.

# wget http://packages.sw.be/rpmforge-release/rpmforge-release-0.5.2-2.el5.rf.x86_64.rpm

Installing RPMforge

# rpm -ivh rpmforge-release-0.5.2-2.el5.rf.x86_64.rpm

 

Install RepoForge (RPM Forge) repository in CentOS & RHEL version 6

32 bit
For Downloading and installing RepoForge  for 32 bit  in Version 6 use the following links.

# wget http://packages.sw.be/rpmforge-release/rpmforge-release-0.5.2-2.el6.rf.i686.rpm

Installing RPMforge

# rpm -ivh rpmforge-release-0.5.2-2.el6.rf.i686.rpm

64 bit
For Downloading and installing RepoForge  for 64 bit  in Version 6 use the following links.

# wget http://packages.sw.be/rpmforge-release/rpmforge-release-0.5.2-2.el6.rf.x86_64.rpm

Installation of repoforge

# rpm -ivh rpmforge-release-0.5.2-2.el6.rf.x86_64.rpm

 

Install RepoForge (RPM Forge) repository in CentOS & RHEL version 7

32 bit
RepoForge for 32 bit for version 7 is not available.


64 bit For Downloading and installing RepoForge  for 64 bit  in Version 7 use the following links.

# wget http://pkgs.repoforge.org/rpmforge-release/rpmforge-release-0.5.3-1.el7.rf.x86_64.rpm

Installing RPMforge (Repoforge)

# rpm -ivh rpmforge-release-0.5.3-1.el7.rf.x86_64.rpm

 

Install RPM GPG KEY

# rpm --import http://dag.wieers.com/rpm/packages/RPM-GPG-KEY.dag.txt

 

Enable or Disable RepoForge (RPM Forge) repository

For enabling and disabling the RepoForge repository you need to make some changes in the rpmforge.repo file. On the terminal type the following command to edit  rpmforge.repo  file.

# vi /etc/yum.repos.d/rpmforge.repo

Install any package by using RepoForge (RPM Forge) repository

 

  RepoForge

Go to index of the RepoForge package.

Now try to install any RepoForge package. For example try to install dvdrip.

# yum install dvdrip
